Moonta Township Upgrade
Council is pleased to provide the below updated animation and plans for the Moonta Township Upgrade. The vision for this project has been crafted thanks to multiple rounds of public consultation and in conjunction with local businesses and interest groups.
Plans for the pedestrian crossings in George Street and Ellen Street, plus an additional crossing in Henry Street, together with the on-street parking, kerb, footpath and stormwater upgrades have all been completed. Staff actively pursued grant funding opportunities to assist in the funding of this project, to date we have been unsuccessful on two occasions. With that said Council has committed current budget and budget from the next financial year through the Capital Works Program to deliver these works. Tenders were called prior to Christmas and the project was awarded to M.A Skinner. Programming of works is scheduled to begin after the Kernewek Lowender and staff will engage with business owners and residents prior to works beginning.
You may notice that Council has completed a number of the upgrades featured in this animation already, including the Queens Square BBQ Shelter that was completed late 2024. The Queen Square BBQ Shelter is approximately 36m2 and consists of a double electric barbecue and additional park bench seating, garden bed surrounds, accessible paths and bike racks. Queen Square works are now complete with more seating and bins installed and Robert Street footpath works close to completion.
Please be aware that this animated render is conceptual only, future works may differ slightly to what appears in this video.
