Project

The Greater Wallaroo Area is home to around 4,500 people and contains commercial and industrial zoning, residential and rural land. The area is emerging as a growth hotspot on the Yorke Peninsula for commercial export, regional growth and tourism, which has changed the land use and population of the area. Rezoning is taking place to increase jobs and residential areas to accommodate an expanding population, which is expected to increase by 33% by 2041. The topography around the area is characterised by moderate undulating hills, with minor valleys meeting in the middle of North Beach and along the main town centre in Wallaroo. The large agricultural and rural areas to the east contribute volumes of water to Wallaroo that need to be managed. The Copper Coast Council, with funding from the Stormwater Management Authority, is preparing a Stormwater Management Plan (SMP) for the Greater Wallaroo Area in partnership with a consultant team led by Southfront. The Greater Wallaroo Area SMP will provide greater clarity to the extent of the stormwater management related issues in the area. The SMP will also guide Copper Coast Council’s decision-making processes to better manage flood risk, water quality, and development in the area.

Public contribution to the project?

Council invited feedback from the community on local stormwater issues to inform the development of the Greater Wallaroo Area Stormwater Management Plan. We sought your information about locations in Wallaroo where stormwater issues are experienced and the nature of these concerns, which will assist in identifying possible solutions.

Next Steps

Community and feedback from technical stakeholders will be used to develop management responses and proposed solutions to address identified stormwater issues in the Wallaroo area for inclusion in the Stormwater Management Plan (SMP).

The community will be notified of the progress of the SMP development and key findings.
