The Project

The Copper Coast Council has received funding to deliver an exciting new infrastructure project — the development of a shared path connecting Moonta Bay to Port Hughes. This project aims to create a safe, accessible, and enjoyable walking and cycling route, encouraging active transport and strengthening the connection between these two popular coastal destinations.

The shared path will begin at the corner of Coast Road and Bay Road and will seamlessly connect into the existing shared path along Port Hughes Road. The works will be delivered in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Construction of the shared path linking the Bay Road Shared Path to Rossiters Road.
  • Stage 2: Extension of the shared path from Rossiters Road through to Harrys Point Road, completing the connection between Moonta Bay and Port Hughes.

To ensure the shared path is accessible and user-friendly for all, the installation works will include:

  • Construction of a hot mix shared path with line marking for clear and safe use by both pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Pram ramps at intersections to improve accessibility for people with mobility aids, prams, and bicycles.
  • Installation of retaining walls and kerbing where required to support the structure and enhance safety.
  • Backfilling and site finishing to create a clean, well-presented edge and smooth transitions.

As part of the construction process, some trees will need to be removed to accommodate the new path. Council is committed to maintaining and enhancing the local environment and will replace any trees that are removed as part of this project.

This shared path will provide residents and visitors with a safer and more convenient way to travel between Moonta Bay and Port Hughes, encouraging active lifestyles and improving community connectivity. Construction timelines and traffic management details will be communicated as the project progresses.
